Viewing Multiple Choice Question Statistics | Questions Summaries | Top

If the multiple choice question allowed the student to select only one correct answer, a frequency distribution shows in tabular format. The frequency distribution is displayed in both numerical and graphical formats. Note: For surveys, the Value column is omitted.

The correct answer for a multiple choice question is in bold and italics. In the example above, one student answered correctly by choosing answer (a), while three students answered incorrectly.

If the multiple choice question allowed the student to choose more than two of the choices, two tables are shown. The first table shows a histogram of all answer combinations, and the second table shows the combined frequency for each choice.

In the example above, one student received a score of 100% by choosing 1, 2, 3, and 5 as his answers. Two other students received a score of 75% for this question by choosing 1, 2, 3, and 4 as their answers.

In the example above, three students chose answer 1 as one of their answer choices. The value 25% represents the value of the answer. For example, by selecting answer 1 in the multiple choice selection, a student would receive a mark of 25%. However, by selecting answers 3 and 4, the same student would receive a mark of 25%. The Cumulative Frequency Distribution table displays the total number of students that selected each answer.

    • Lower 25%: the percentage of students who answered the question correctly, and whose score is in the lower 25% category. In the example above, 100% of the upper 25% percentile of students answered the question correctly. Conversely, 66% of the students whose score was in the lower 25% percentile answered this question correctly.
    • Discrimination: indicates how well the question relates between high and low scorers. A negative number indicates that the lower-scoring students performed better on this question than the high-scorers.
