About Course Settings | Top

Course Settings allows you to set the course default for the appearance of your course pages, such as the color scheme, the background image, the icon style and image you use as a link.

In this one area, you can easily set or edit the look of the whole course, without having to change every page individually. Specific pages can be customized, overriding the course default setting. If any setting is not page-specified, then the course default setting is adopted.

In addition to setting the course default settings for your course, you can also do the following from the Course Settings screen:

  • hide, reveal, or indent the Course Menu
  • create or edit a Welcome Page for your course
  • set Course News
  • edit the Course Menu
  • set the instructor name
  • choose the language
  • modify the background image, colors, and icons for your course
Course Menu | Top

The Course Menu is an editable menu that appears to your students. You add the links to the Course Menu through Add Page or Tool. Students can then use the links to gain access to Tools, Pages, or web sites that you have added to your course.

After you have added links to the Course Menu, you can edit them, hide or reveal them, or even move them to another page. Editing the Course Menu is done from Course Settings.

If you want to maximize screen space, you temporarily hide the Course Menu by clicking the down-arrow next to it. When the Course Menu is temporarily hidden, the links appear in a drop-down list. You can also permanently hide or reveal the links on the Course Menu through Course Settings.

Welcome Page | Top

The Welcome Page allows you to provide course information to prospective students. Visitors do not need to enter a user name or password to view your Welcome Page.

You can customize the Welcome Page by adding a banner image, textblocks, icons representing links, and a background image. You can also customize page colors. You can change the layout of the screen by arranging the links in one or two columns.

Visitors can access the Welcome Page by following these steps:

  1. From the WebCT Entry page, click See courses. The Course List screen appears.
  2. Locate the course in the list, and click the information icon in the Course Information column. The Welcome Page for that course appears.

They can also access the Welcome Page from the following URL:

http://<your server>:<your port>/public/<courseID>

Note: <courseID> is the ID for the course.
