Editing a link | Top

This option allows you to modify a selected link on the Homepage or an Organizer Page, update the link on associate pages, and specify the link for selective release. The selective release feature allows you to specify when to make a link visible to students.

Note: If the link you want to edit is to an external program, see Editing a link to an external program.

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link you want to modify.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Edit. The Update Link screen appears.
  3. Under Basic Settings, in the Title text box, enter a new title for the link, if desired.
  4. Under Link Appearance, select your link appearance preferences.
    • If you want to change an icon file,click Browse. The WebCT Browser appears. Locate and select the file. Note: Icon image files are located in the WebCT- Files folder, or you can upload your own icons.
  5. You can specify your link for selective release. See Specifying a link for selective release.
  6. To update an associated link on another page, under Associated link, select Apply changes to associated link. Note: This option will only be available if the link appears in more than one location; for example, the Homepage and the Course Menu.
  7. Click Update. The Homepage or Organizer page appears and the link is updated.

Editing a Quiz link | Top

This option allows you to modify a selected quiz link from the Homepage or an Organizer Page, update the link on associate pages, and specify the link for selective release. The selective release feature allows you to specify when to make a link visible to students.

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the quiz link you want to modify.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Edit. The Update Link to WebCT Tool screen appears.
  3. Under Basic Settings, in the Title text box, enter a new title for the link, if desired.
  4. Under Link Appearance, select your link appearance preferences.
    • If you want to change an icon file,click Browse. The WebCT Browser appears. Locate and select the file. Note: Icon image files are located in the WebCT- Files folder, or you can upload your own icons.
  5. To display the quizzes available through your quiz link, under Quiz listing, click Select. The Select Quizzes screen appears.
    1. Under Status, select the quizzes to be available through your quiz link.
    2. Click Continue. A refreshed Update Link to WebCT Tool screen appears. The Quiz Listing displays your selected quizzes. Note: By default All quizzes will display through your quiz link.
  6. You can specify your quiz link for selective release. See Specifying a link for selective release.
  7. To update the same link in another location, under Associated link, select Apply changes to associated link. Note: This option will only be available if there are multiple occurrence of the link (e.g. on the Homepage and on the Course Menu).
  8. Click Update.

Deleting a link | Top

This option allows you to remove a selected link from your course Homepage or an Organizer page.

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link you want to delete.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Delete. A warning message appears.
  3. Click OK. The link is deleted.

Note: This option only removes the link from the Homepage or an Organizer Page. If you have placed links to this tool on the Course Menu, and you want to remove all links to this tool, see Deleting Course Menu links.

Hiding or revealing a link | Top

This option allows you to show or hide the selected link in student view.

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link that you want to hide or reveal.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Hide or Reveal. The screen refreshes.

Specifying a link for selective release | Top

This option allows you to specify when you want a link to appear and to whom. If the link appears on the Homepage, an Organizer Page, and the Course Menu, you can apply the selective release to all locations of the link.

You can release a link by setting release criteria based on one or more of the following:

  • First Name, Last Name, User ID
  • student records (information from Manage Students)
  • start date
  • duration
  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link that you want to selectively release.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Specify selective release. The Update Link screen appears.
  3. Under Selective Release, choose the students to whom you want to release the link, using one of the following methods:
    • selecting the students from a list:
      1. Next to the Release to text box, click Select. The Member Selection window opens, containing a table of all students registered in the course.
      2. Select the students by doing one of the following:
        • In the Status column, for each student you want to select, click the corresponding check box.
        • If you have copied student records to the clipboard from elsewhere in your course, click Paste records to automatically select them from the table.
      3. Click Update. The Update Link screen appears and the Release to text box contains the selected students.
    • selecting the students by specifying the criteria on which you want the release to be based:
      • From the two Release based on drop-down lists, select a criteria and a comparison value to apply to a value that you enter in the final text box. You can base the release on criteria such as Last Name, User ID, or by the results of a submitted assignment or quiz. Note: If you would like to selectively release a link to students in one course of a cross-listed set, from the first drop-down list, select Enrolled Course, from the second drop-down list, select Equals, and then in the Value text box, enter the Course ID.
  4. If you want to specify the start date or duration of the release, select a date range for Release after and/or Release until.
    • Release after allows you to select the date and time after which you want the link to be available.
    • Release until allows you to specify the date and time until which you want the link to be available.
  5. If the link appears in another location (for example, the Course Menu), under Associated links, do one of the following:
    • To apply the changes to the associated link, select the check box.
    • To not apply the changes to the associated link, clear the check box.
  6. Click Update. The Homepage or Organizer Page appears and (Conditional) appears under the link.

Moving a link up or down on the Course Menu | Top

You may want to reorganize the links in the Course Menu.

  1. From the Control Panel, click Course Settings. The Change Settings screen appears.
  2. Click Edit Course Menu. The Edit Course Menu screen appears.
  3. Select the link that you want to move.
  4. Under Organize: Links, select the direction and distance you want to move the link on the Course Menu.
  5. Click Go. The Course Menu refreshes with the link in its new location.

Moving a link to another page | Top

This option allows you to choose another page on which to display the selected link.

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link you want to display on another page.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Move to organizer page. The Move Link screen appears.
  3. From the Select an organizer page drop-down list, select the new location for your link.
  4. Click Move. The Homepage or Organizer Page appears and the link is moved.

Moving a link to the Course Menu | Top

This option allows you to list a page or tool on the Course Menu.

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link you want to appear on the Course Menu.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Move to Course Menu. The item now appears on the Course Menu.

Copying a link to the Course Menu | Top

  1. From the Homepage or an Organizer Page, select the link that you want to copy.
  2. Under Options: Links, click Copy to Course Menu. The link will now appear on both the Homepage and on the Course Menu.
