use of live, two-way communication among and/or between students and faculty in
a scheduled or "fixed" point(s) of time(s), much like classroom-based
instruction.
Course Description:
A study of human development
with emphasis on the broad physical, maturational, and behavioral changes
occurring throughout the life span and the factors and conditions that
influence these changes.
Prerequisite: PSY 110
Required Textbook & Materials:
Kail, R. & Cavanaugh, J. (2010). Human Development: A
Lifespan View. Fifth Edition. Wadsworth/Thompson Learning Publishers: United
States.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, each student
should be able to:

1. Describe the major developmental milestones throughout
the human lifespan.
2. Explain the major research methods and data collection
strategies used by developmental
psychologists.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationships
between the physical, cognitive, and
social growth of humans.
4. Explain some of the underlying factors influencing
personality development and abnormal
behavior patterns.
5. Reflect upon the relevance of current theory and
research findings to your own growth and
development.

Methods of Instruction: Online – Distance Learning
Students are required to engage in the following
interaction(s) for successful completion of this course:
Your
attendance will be taken on the due dates of your written work and through a
tracking mechanism within the WebCT system. Failure to submit your work in a
timely manner (on or before the appropriate test or Homework Assignment due
dates) will indicate an absence. There will be no exceptions. Extra Credit
points may be accrued through the following:

absence = 10 points
2
absences = 5 points
3
absences = 0 points
Student
grades will be lowered 1 grade level for each absence beyond the third absence.
Written
work will include exams, homework assignments, and optional extra credit
projects.

final grade in this course will be determined based on the total number of
points accumulated from the various
exams
and homework assignments plus the bonus points accrued from any extra credit
work and attendance.
