This kind of distance education is characterized by an emphasis on "learning on demand" or "as needed communication" between students and faculty from multiple locations at times convenient to participants. 

Note: Students must pass a proctored final exam . Ideally, the student will take the proctored final exam at HCC. But, if this is not possible, the student must find a suitable person to proctor the exam.

Course Description:
The college published description of this course is: Arithmetic skills, operations on numbers, fractions, decimals, calculation, measurement, equations, formulas, elementary geometry, and problem solving. Prerequisite: None

Basic Mathematics through Applications (with MyMathLab), Akst &Bragg;  (Note: other options will be made available to students.) Students must also register for MyMathLab at www.coursecompass.com   There is a cost for this.

Methods of Instruction: Online – Distance Learning
Student will have a textbook and access on-line to MyMathLab. MyMathLab helps students learn by offering interactive problem solving, animations, tutorial, video lectures (Note: cable or DSL connection may be needed to view the videos), etc.

Students are required to engage in the following interaction(s) for successful completion of this course:
Take on-line exams; turn in projects; pass a proctored final exam (the first part of the final exam will be taken without the use of a calculator; a calculator may be used on the second part of the final exam).  Ideally, the student will take the proctored final exam at HCC.  But, if this is not possible, the student must find a suitable person to proctor the exam.

There will be deadlines for taking on-line chapter tests and for turning in projects. Projects must be turned in electronically. The final exam will be given during final exam week at HCC.

Evaluation of Student's Progress:
The grade will be based upon the scores of on-line exams, project, and the proctored final exam.
