English Composition II is a writing course that builds upon previous writing experience gained in English Composition I. It is very writing intensive. In English 102 students write about literature of various forms including fiction, poetry, and drama. Students continue their research strategies, improve critical reading skills, and work to gain greater writing abilities and confidence. Students must have written at least 3,000 words by the semester's end.

Course Objectives:

Reading: Students should able to comprehend works of poetry, fiction, and drama. Students will become more aware of the human issues and points of view expressed in these forms of literature and respond analytically to works of literature.

Writing: Students should be able to produce formal analytical essays that address literary elements (such as character, theme, setting, etc.) with focus and insight; contain a thesis and supporting paragraphs; are clear, organized, and well-developed; appropriately incorporate quotes and examples from literary sources; are grammatically correct; are appropriately formatted and presented.
