I have Word 2007; why can’t my instructor open my documents?

Your instructor is using an older version of Word that cannot view 2007 documents. The reason being that Word 2007 saves the file with an extension of .docx; older versions of Word can only read a file with the extension .doc. When saving the file, you need to save it as a .doc.

Once your document is complete and you are ready to save it, click the Windows icon: and place your mouse over “Save As” and you will see the following menu…

Choose the Word 97-2003
Document option:

The “Save As” dialog box appears; name the file, choose where to save it and click “Save”
